The Century Arms BFT47 Core combines classic AK styling with Century Arms’ upgraded American-made BFT construction. Chambered in the legendary 7.62x39mm, this brand-new rifle features premium American maple furniture, a traditional AK profile and a number of improvements over Century’s earlier domestic AK-pattern rifles.
The name BFT47 stands for “Bulged Forged Trunnion,” referring to the rifle’s reinforced forged 4140 steel front trunnion. Century pairs it with a carburized 4140 steel bolt and a heavier 1.5mm heat-treated 4130 stamped-steel receiver, creating a robust foundation for the rifle.
Up front is a 16.25-inch 4150 chrome-moly steel barrel with a 1:10 twist and traditional AK-style slant muzzle device. The metal components receive a durable manganese-phosphate finish, while the American maple stock and handguards give the rifle the unmistakable appearance of a traditional wood-furniture AK.
Century also equips the BFT47 with its RAK-1 enhanced single-stage trigger group. The design incorporates a modified hammer profile intended to reduce bolt-carrier hang-up and a redesigned disconnector intended to eliminate traditional AK trigger slap. American Rifleman measured its test rifle’s trigger at approximately 4 lbs., 12 oz.
Additional upgrades include an enhanced safety lever with bolt-hold-open notch, extended magazine release, adjustable AK iron sights and a left-side optics mounting rail, allowing the owner to retain the classic configuration or build the rifle into an optics-equipped modern AK.
The BFT47 delivers the unmistakable look and feel of a wood-furniture 7.62x39 AK rifle while incorporating modern improvements to the receiver, trunnion, trigger and controls.
